First week of October could be glorious, or you could get 2' of snow. It's hard to plan ahead at that time of year. Hi lamebeaver! We’ll be in Silverton area in early October also, finishing the Colorado Trail. What are temperatures like there in late Sept, early Oct? It sounds like you know the area well, would love to get some info on what temps will be like for the whole trail in fall. Thanks!

Silverton area in early October also, finishing the Colorado Trail. What are temperatures like there in late Sept, early Oct? I have potential trip planned to the area 1st week of September this year. Have some unfinished peaks to bag. Trip not totally confirmed, but close. As of today I am expecting the weather at 11,000' to 12,000' to have daily highs 50°F to 60°F and nighttime lows 30°F to 40°F. Rain showers can happen anytime. Snow definitely always possible, usually a mountain dusting can be expected. Monsoon officially over. Seven Day Forecast - Highland Mary 12,000'Forecast Disscussion for Above

Westy is correct. The chance of afternoon thunderstorms tapers off in early September and is greatly reduced in October, but a cold front can bring rain sleet and occasionally, several inches of snow, and the risk of this increases as you get intro October. Temps can dip into the 20s. Two years ago, during elk season (early October) the temps at our camp dipped down to zero one night.
