Hard to say about the water from one week to the next. You should have plenty on the Skyway and Chinnabee, but on that Pinhoti section it will depend entirely on recent rainfall(though I'd expect March to be a pretty good time for it). I only hiked in that area twice this fall, dayhiking the long version of the Cave Creek loop, then doing the Skyway loop as a quickie overnighter a few weeks later. First time, the Pinhoti was bone dry, including the spring at Caney Head. The second, after a good rain, there was water everywhere from there down to Adams Gap-spring flowing, drainages running across the trail, water bubbling up out of the ground, etc.
If you have 3 days, and Skyway isn't enough for you(it can be anything from a rough dayhike to a leisurely 3 day trip for some) consider doing the Cave Creek loop along with it as a figure 8.
I'm off on weekdays, so can't say about "crowds" as I rarely see anyone out there except on the Chinnabee and sometimes the Pinhoti between the Cheaha TH and McDill Point...

Hey OwenM. Are you the same Owen who used to hang out on alatrails.com? Was he a jerk to you, or owe you money? Never heard of him! Guess that place has been gone awhile, along with the old backpacker.com one that this is apparently the new version of. I haven't looked at backpacking forums much the last couple years...

Was he a jerk to you, or owe you money? Nah, nice guy who always had great trip report pics. Yeah, Alatrails shut down a while back. One of the members there got a Pinhoti section added to whiteblaze. This is indeed the new version of the old backpacker.com forum, but it's no longer affiliated with the magazine (and it works much better since the separation).

Well, then...that was probably me, thanks! I have been getting on Whiteblaze some, and the regional subsections are a big part of that, but I always liked "this" forum. Helped fuel my passion for backpacking when I was getting back into it 8 or 9 years ago. These free internet forums sure have cost me a lot of money!

Clockwise or counter-clockwise on the Skyway Loop? I was planning on flipping a coin the day before I leave, but I am open to suggestions.

I've done it every which way, but clockwise from Turnipseed most. Can't park overnight by Lake Chinnabee any more, so that just leaves Adams Gap. I've never been thrilled about parking there, but that's probably all in my head after hearing of a break-in years ago. I've left a vehicle for 3-4 days before, so it obviously didn't bother me that much... For a quickie overnighter with short days and arriving kinda late, Chinnabee from Turnipseed up to the Pinhoti to Adam's Gap then the first half or so of Skyway is good for splitting things up. Nice campsite on Skyway without bugs this time of year(they're horrible on Skyway in summer), and an easy hike out up the Chinnabee(plus the Lake Trail if you're in no hurry) the next morning. I've had a tendency to end up on the Chinnabee or just finish the whole thing in a day when hiking that direction, but started too late last time, and made camp on Skyway as it was starting to get dark. Nice spot, but discovered in the morning that I only had a few more minutes walking to get to the campsite I'd wanted-the popular one on Skyway. No complaints about my campsite... ...but I'd always wanted to camp here: Hard to miss since the trail crosses the creek right there.
