M: 5-mile road run. Tu: Nada... daughter's chorus recital. W: P90X lower body. Bad mistake prior to a ski vacation. Th: 1.5 mile walk with dog. Drive to ski resort. Knees and leg muscles sore from Wednesday's workout. F: Downhill ski all day. Knees and legs cooperated. Sa: Downhill ski all day. Su: Downhill ski half day. Drive home.
I ate like crap during the ski vacation. Gained one pound.
I found another weakness that I need to work on... side planks.

I'm already failing to check in, but not failing to work out. I did, however, sit down and do an assessment of the effects on me of running, and decided that it was a bad idea. The running, not the assessment. Just too many things that were hurting more, even after weeks of a slow and careful ramping up.
So: biking 7 days a week, one of them long, one medium-long (20+), and one with intervals. Swimming twice a week, and trying to hit the sand ladder over by the beach whenever I can (I need to figure out how to work that one in more regularly). Climbing 150' up and down in sand is good backpacking training, and not that different from running in terms of aerobic workout, but mostly without the side-effects.

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. I'm happy that for now, my body is allowing me to take the jolts of running. I know it won't be that way forever, but I'll take it. The new Lifetime Fitness opened in Broomfield on Jan 31. Seriously entertaining joining and trying to fill in gaps with weights and swimming. My lower body is getting a stellar workout, while the rest of me, not so much. lol

Seriously entertaining joining and trying to fill in gaps with weights and swimming. I'd recommend it. It's easier (for me) to keep my core strong at the gym than just doing crunches at home, too. And it's all about the core...

I had a pretty craptacular week of sitting behind my desk, working 10-12 hour days, last week.
M: Nada Tu: 3.1 mile run W: Nada Th: Nada F: Nada Sa: walked the dogs in about a mile in 35mph winds. Su: Walked the dogs in 25mph winds.
I am sooooo sick of the wind! And my job.

M: 5-mile road run. Legs tired from previous weekend's skiing, but I managed OK. Tu: State of the Union burpee challenge. Probably did somewhere around 100 burpees. W: P90X abs, back/bis Th / F: I did something one of these two days, but I don't remember what. Sa: Run local XC course, sandbag work (farmer's carry, hill repeats, etc.); Insanity Recovery workout Su: Downhill skiing, burpee workout during Superbowl (2 burpees / point scored... yeah, ouch). I climbed a rope with no issues... good to know I have retained that skill.
Weight remained steady (unfortunately).
I bought a pulley/bolt/washers to install a Hercules Hoist on one of our trees. Now if only it weren't -20F windchill every day after work.

Pushed up the mileage last week, so I was over 120 (biking) for the week, ending yesterday with a 45.5 miler, 4300' of climbing (including the really fun 7.8-mile stretch with 2100' of up. Later in the season that will be nothing--just a little piece of a 75-mile ride. Yesterday it felt like a kick in the butt). Rounded out my week with a couple of mile swims, 3 weight workouts, and a session or two on the sand ladder.

While Lifetime Fitness might be really nice and well kept, I'm not so sure it is worth $119 a month plus signup of $99. The new club is listed as an "Onyx Club". /rant I read on Boulder's page that the Community Rec Centers will give resident pricing to those working in Boulder city limits. I have my proof of employment, just going to make sure the East Community Center is clean before I sign on. This will also allow me to use the Boulder Res when I want to start training in open water.

And Rally Sports in Boulder is the same price as Lifetime? At least Rally Sports has Masters and Intro to Masters swimming classes. *sighs*
