I actually decided last minute to leave after work last Wednesday. Started Thursday morning at the Clingman's dome parking lot and hiked up that. visited New Found Gap really quick and hike maybe mile or 2 on the AP trail. After that I drove to Smokemont's Baptist Church and parked my truck. Hiked down Bradley Fork Trail down to camp 49. Nice little camp right on the water. Had some company from Kentucky too so I was not completely alone on Thanks giving. Friday morning I fell in the river trying to rinse my jet boil, so got a little delayed drying out my shoes over the fire. Hiked up Dry sluice gap up to the AT, then over to Charlies Bunion. I do not like to back track but I was running out of day light so took the same route back. Stayed at camp 49 on the second night again. Packed up and head back to Smokemont Saturday morning. Took Smokemont loop trail instead of Bradley's on the way back.
Got to say the Smoky's are magical, even after getting blisters on both feet on the first day it was well worth the pain and struggle I had all weekend. Now its time to return my Oboz and try something else. I have never had a blister before and man do they suck!

Never camped at 49 but it looks like a nice site.

nice! sorry about your blisters. a good boot is hard to find. most boots don't seem to agree with my feet. did they have the tower open while you were there? I heard they re-opened briefly, recently.

Yes it was open, definitely looked like they where doing something up there. Bags of sand or cement everywhere. Maybe some type of trail running shoe would be better for. Just would like them to be warm and some what water resistant.
