It sounds like the OP is gonna have to carry a bunch of water anyway---and the water he uses to cook his meals is still water consumed---for hydration purposes. The water in a tasty bites pouch is the same as the water he would be carrying to prepare a dehydrated meal. Drink a liter of carried water or cook up a liter of soup---it's all the same.

Which is why he's looking at foods that are ready-to-eat, which he wouldn't if he weren't having to carry all the water. Total weight I guess is the same either way, but he gets to skip the prep effort.
