In early July I went up the the Adirondacks. It was great but I ran into a problem that has plagued me on previous camping trips. When I sleep on a hard surface, like in a tent, my bladder seems to kick into overdrive. When it wakes me up, I have to go right away. I don't have that problem sleeping in a bed. One night I made sure I went to the bathroom just before turning in. Two hours later, I had to go just as soon as I woke up.I went back to sleep, and a couple of hours later....same thing. I can barely get to a nearby tree before it starts coming out. I have even had a few accidents & had to shower in the middle of the night. Has anyone else ever had a problem like this?

a problem that has plagued me... Frequent urination is a symptom of diabetes! You may think this is an absurd possibility but don't dismiss it. You should be checked. Better to dismiss this with proof rather than not know you're prediabetic, or worse. Diabetes is sneaky, and millions of people do not know they have it.

I'd say that or prostate. It definitely should be checked.

Good call.I was curious, did a Google search and found this as a symptom of BPH: "more frequent urination, especially at night."

And an enlarged prostate could be "squeezed" when lying on a hard surface as compared to lying on a soft bed. In the meantime... bring a urine bottle on your camping trips.

As someone with BPH you describe the symptoms. You doc can do a digital rectal exam and tell if the prostate is enlarged and is smooth or has nodules. Smooth is characteristic of BPH. A PSA will give some idea about the risk for prostate cancer. Drugs can help but do not "cure" the BPH. It is something that most men have sooner or later.

Thanks for your responses. Recently I had some blood work done and I know I am not diabetic. Next Wednesday at the doctor's I will mention this problem to him, maybe he'll do an exam on my prostate.

It is my prostate. The doctor said not to worry. If it gets worse he told to let him know, but he sure wasn't concerned, which is a good thing. Thanks again for all your concern

If you drink caffeine , cut back some, it might help. At least it does me.

Make that a dedicated bottle with a skull and crossbones drawn on both sides to distinguish it. You just described my fuel bottle. I hope he doesn't get confused.

For a pee bottle, when I used them, I have made the distinguishing marking, something I can feel over something I need to see. What has worked best, for me, is to wrap a layer of tape over a Turks Head, that makes a ridge or band that I can easily feel. I prefer to make the ridge at the top of the bottle to facilitate easier holding of the bottle. Turks Head

As ohm says but thinking yellow vs red bottles, stickers, etc.. ... and not drinking from "skull and bones" bottles. Actually different materials could help too, with an old wide-opening platy for midnight "situations", ... less "aim" needed.

Thinking yellow vs red stickers I drew mine on with a sharpie. Stickers would have been a good idea.

Gentlemen, please! Marking bottles, possible nighttime confusion, etc? Why not face the music and just pack a real urine bottle? Designed for easy holding, a snap-on lid that won't need screwing on in the dark, and many cheap as cheap gets! I learned the benefits while in the hospital a few months ago. There is even one in that link list that seems collapsable. Glow-in-the dark lids, but the lids don't need to come off. Pure convenience. Easy pee, see?
