Power grips are pedals? You don't clip in?

They are straps that attach to the pedals though they sell cheap pedals as well. No,I don't wear stiff bike shoes or clip in as I have more of a touring mentality than a racing or performance mentality. So, I spend considerable time off the bike walking, swimming, visiting stores, exploring or whatever it takes to keep the ride fresh and not too much like just training.
I use cages on my older bikes but they would look off on my new bike so I have just been using flip flops with my touring platform pedals. However, the power straps are the perfect look for this bike and should be functional as well to encourage me to spin more and mash less.

OK I know what they are now. I used toe cages for a while before clipping in. I won't do much touring until my daughter graduates. I do go for simple overnights on the bike but that's a "pedal there, camp, come home the next day" type thing.

Those are fun as well.I haven't done any actual touring or even overnighters in a number of years now.I think I have explored out this area...

I rode 40 miles this morning which puts me at 152 miles over the last 5 days.I feel better on the bike now.I think I have the power grips a little loose to give my feet some wiggle room if my knee starts to tighten up.But,I think that encourages me to continue to mash and bring more of the calves into it.So I made more of an effort to spin bringing more of the quads into it and not surprisingly it is a totally different exercise as my quads were tight and not responding well at first but I gradually started doing better.I will tighten down the power grips(straps)now as my knee definitely does better spinning...

I'm a bit opposite as when I work on my spin it is to bring my hamstrings into it. I'm a masher by nature but I'm trying to retrain that. It's one of my primary focuses on my trainer.

I'm using goal based training for next year on my bike. The first year I got back on the bike I did a 100 miler (Century) and it got me out the door. This past year (2015) I faltered and didn't have an impending event to push me forward. I just set a 2016 Imperial Century event and will user my rides to get ready for it. I'm not interested in just finishing it, which I know I can do already, but properly training for it and making it a non-event event. If you are so inclined, read about it at the below link. You can also dive into the trip report from 2013 which was when I had just started my weight loss and health journey. 2nd Annual Henry-2-Hofbräuhaus Memorial Ride Set (10/29/2016)

I'm using goal based training for next year on my bike. Goal based training does work.Back in 2002 when I had just gone carfee and was trying to ramp up my cycling(I eventually figured I needed to be able to hike 30 miles or bike 120 miles)my goal was to ride down to the Keys and get into touring. After a modest base and skill development riding on the road down here,I set off on a tour with a group I meet on bikeforums in the June summer heat connecting from Miami to Naples to Ft Myers, then Arcadia,Okeechobee,West Palm and back down the east coast.I was bitten by the touring bug and set out for two rides down to the Keys solo, doing my first century on my first trip on 4th of July weekend with temps hitting over 100.After that I set off all over the state exploring and backpacking , as that was around the same time I joined backpacker.com forums and got back into backpacking down here in Florida.

I am a bikeforums guy as well. Still active? I'm Minister Creek over there.I don't post much anymore unless I have a question, though.I used to be fairly active on the touring and training&nutrition forums.I would argue with doctors and others about the need for more fats and protein in the diet which today is becoming more widely accepted, but of course over there it's all carbs all the time.Mentioning Atkins was the ultimate flame, lol. But I used to be very up to date on health and fitness issues and debate over there with pubmed studies etc. as reference.Today, I'm more on cruise control on diet and fitness issues I remember what works for me, but don't spend as much time keeping up on all the micro details... ETA I see Matchka is still going as strong as ever. She is one of the real longtimers on bikeforums...

I'm in the Clydes & Athena's forum mostly when I do participate. A few of the people have joined in what I'm doing but I'm picky about who I interact with about it.

I'm a bit opposite as when I work on my spin it is to bring my hamstrings into it Exactly, since hamstrings are primarily fast twitch if you are training to increase speed and elevate your metabolism you will want to bring more of them into it.Quads are more mixed fiber and being a large muscle group tend to respond well to a variety and large volume of training. When cycling I like to burn fat but not elevate my metabolism to the point I risk muscle loss,so the quads and even more so calves are the endurance muscles. Thus, touring styled riding fits my objectives and lifestyle(though I don't like being dropped by all the hot young female racers, lol).

I rode my bike 40 miles today. My hiking and cycling mileage have been way off ever since I strained my knee this spring. Those kind of things take forever to heal 100% so I have been reducing mileage to avoid an overuse re-injury.It is slightly tight even now.The temperature is currently 79 with a real feel of 78 so humidity isn't an issue and I rode fairly strong.

I plan to get on my workhorse bike tomorrow to go for groceries. But I can't ride my road bike until I can twist this sprained ankle enough to get out of the clips. I can reduce the tension to make that happen sooner, I guess. Or swap out for pedals with toe clips, but the only pair of those I have is on the grocery bike...
