Might as well throw up a photo or two to keep the thread alive. Two weeks ago, 53 miles at Mt. Lassen: Saturday past, Russian River. 66.5 miles, around 5000' of climbing, including some 15% grades from the coast up into the Coast Range.

Fastest human powered bike. New world record. "What's the fastest you've ever gone on a bicycle? Maybe 20, close to 30 miles per hour on a hill? The AeroVelo team just more than doubled that in their bullet-shaped "speedbike," reaching a speed of 85.71 miles per hour and breaking the world record for fastest human-powered vehicle at the same time." link

I don't know whether that is funny or sad.I guess I'll just continue to take the slow lane and enjoy the scenery along the way...

Rode my bike around 40 miles today. Was mildly dehydrated but energized upon returning. Now after a chocolate/vanilla banana/blackberry protein shake with pine and brazil nuts I just feel energized with my metabolism still revved up.I find bike rides are best at doing this for me.I think I will stick to 40 miles or less for awhile as I get acclimated to riding in the heat and humidity that still has a real feel of 98.

WHERE do you get a bike like this (or make it). I would love to get the weight off my hands (carpal tunnel)

Did another long ride yesterday--67 miles, with enough climb to cross the Sierra (or something like that ). That sort of thing takes fuel: That sort of fuel requires its own recovery:

I rode 76 miles today.I started very early in the morning so the first half was relatively easy in the cool predawn and overcast early morning. But after doing several errands before starting back by mile 56 I was starting to tire as the heat and humidity had picked up.So I stopped for two or three hours to swim in the ocean.Between the salt water and women in bikinis I got my second wind and the rest of the ride was relatively easy.I am starting to get back in cycling shape again.I rode with groceries for the return and actually rode over the largest bridge over the port for the first time since this spring.I had been pushing the bike up the bridge and not loading the bike to protect my knee which had been sore this spring. But it seemed to handle both fine now.

Well done, rwtb123! Glad to hear your knee is doing better. Mine is on and off; sometimes it's fine, sometimes it hurts. I presume you buy non-perishable groceries, if you take that long getting home, in the heat

It's a Whole Foods in the northern part of the county that I like to take a break and shop at so I just stocked up on a few high use items that I'm always running out of like bananas and nuts even though I really didn't even need to grocery shop as I've been mostly shopping by car closer to home lately.I think the raw cheese probably did get pasteurized though.
I think the long ride actually helped my knee as it was still occasionally getting tight, but I focused on keeping my foot farther forward on the pedal and spinning and it seems stronger now though now my lower back seems to be acting up in response to the ride.I can feel I've put more muscle on my upper back recently but I guess at the cost of inflexibility in my lower back.Oh well at least I have something else to focus on now ,more stretch position exercises for my back.

If it isn't one thing, it's another. At least, that's the way I'm feeling about my carcass and its aches and pains.

That's strange...after the ride my lower back would get sore when I tried to sit down or get up from the couch but since it wasn't an acute type soreness I wasn't too worried. However, I figured it would take longer to work out but after resting most of yesterday it was pretty much gone so this morning I did a particularly heavy back workout even using straps to take the deadlifts and shrugs heavier than I usually do for singles and doubles(ie my one and two rep maxes). Now my back feels great and I really don't have any injury or soreness at all though my legs are slightly tight from all the cycling so I look forward to hitting them with deep squats.

Saturday rode around, then up, Mt. Diablo in the far East Bay. By the time we got to the top (about 5 p.m.), the wind was really picking up. I didn't even try to take any photos except from inside the tower (which was a pre-WWII beacon for ships at sea--despite being far inland; the beacon is visible for 100 miles but is now only lit once a year). You could see the weather changing out the scratched and wind-blasted window. Looking the other way, you can see the clouds over the Sierra:

Nice ! The last time I went up Diablo was on the timed ride. I did it in a little over an hour, then froze on the way down...
today I went over 4.000 miles for the year. Still hoping to make 5K in 2015...

Nice ! The last time I went up Diablo was on the timed ride. I did it in a little over an hour, then froze on the way down... I saw that competition. It took me an hour, I think, to make it up the northgate road to the junction Did you ever ride on around the mountain? The road through the Morgan Territory is gorgeous, though it's a nasty climb whichever direction you go, and it needs new pavement. We also froze on the way down. The wind was howling and the temps dropping fast. I had to stop at least twice to warm up enough to stop shaking.

Rode 68 miles today. The humidity is down now even though it was sunny and warm. There was a headwind for the last 18 miles but I will definitely take a breeze over humidity.
