I've only done one trip in big frog area and this was before the storm/fires of late---I found them to be easy to follow and whatnot...
Bring a map though as some intersections were not exactly marked or easy to find...
I do believe that the SAWs group has placed some signs in that area since I've been there...

Depending on your route selection, keep in mind you may have to ford creeks frequently.

I've only been up Big Creek trail and a portion of the Benton Mackaye to Big Frog Peak. You have to pay attention in a couple sections on Big Creek. One section was so overgrown with Rhodo that it seemed more like a hog trail. The Benton MacKaye section I was on was very easy to follow. I'm looking forward to exploring more out there.

driftwoody, it looks like grassy gap trail is the only potential for lots of creek crossing. big creek trail only has two and they're very easy crossings.

the drainages you cross on Grassy Gap Tr aren't large --weren't even flowing when I was in the area. Rough Creek is pretty wide, though.
