when I worked as a welder for our theater department in college (would come home covered in metal oil and shavings, it made me feel like a badass) I went to Carnegie-Mellon for Theatre Design. Welding was a required course. :D

There was a time in my life that I wouldn't have walked to the end of the driveway to get the mail without blowing out my hair and putting on makeup. That was New Jersey. This is Vermont, where dyeing one's hair is frowned upon in a very serious sort of Yankee environmentalism way.
Now, most days, I don't bother to wear makeup and just let my hair air-dry. I still wear heels, though. Usually, I'm the only one in the room in heels, which is kind of awkward, since I'm over 6' 1" tall, but I've learned to stop feeling bad about my ridiculous height in heels. :D
