I talk back to them all the time. I live in an area where they love to blow them up. I do believe from my observations they do divine intent. They do not seem to react to all human presence in the same way. Now with a study they communicate, makes sense.

Do prairie dogs have language? That was an interesting article. I liked the pic with the San Francisco peaks in the background. Like the researcher, I've been watching how the expanding human perimeter and increasing human density in that area has affected the natural world. Anyway, with regard to prairie dog language, I'm not too surprised. They're very social creatures and they obviously do a lot of communication of some sort. The methods researchers used to decode the signals were interesting and creative. Across the animal world, this kind of research increasingly shows more species with more capabilities and characteristics once considered unique to humans. I don't get why those discoveries still generate controversy.
