Hello forum! I'm looking for either just advice or a backpacking partner from July 4th to July 8th. Starting out in Jackson Hole, Montana and hiking North to Silver Tip ranch. I would love advice on: 1) Trail recommendations from Jackson Hole to Silver Tip. 2) Water/food recommendations 3) Permit/ reservation requirements. I'm an experienced hiker and avid marathoner. I'm in the NYC ramblers group and I was a venture scout in high school. Thanks! S

Welcome! What research have you done on this already? Jackson Hole is in Wyoming, and is the name of the ski resort. Jackson, Wy. has an airport but fairly pricey to use. Silver Tip Ranch is in Montana, but I think it is much more than 75 miles from Jackson. Silver Tip sits on the Northern boundary of Yellowstone, accessible only by wagon from inside the park. Maybe I am not finding the places you are referring to. Please explain further.

I concur with Zeke on this. You seem a bit confused about the geography of Yellowstone and the surrounding area. A hike from the Jackson Hole area, which is indeed in Wyoming, not Montana, to the Silver Tip Ranch would be across the entire south to north length - literally from below the southern border to the very northern border, of the park. If you started from the town of Jackson you'd also be hiking the entire length of the Teton range. It's doable but would take at least a couple of weeks, maybe more, of hard hiking at least, I would venture. Getting suitable permits this late could be a nightmare. Further clarification would allow us to help you out to a much larger degree. Feel free to ask.
