We've been blessed with a decent amount of rain here in the Chattanooga area....and the drought has been declared over....
That said, south and east of here....in parts of north Georgia, the drought is still hanging on.....
Spring has sprung....the canopy is nearly full, the waters sweet......life is good....

I didn't realize you all were in a drought.
Here in So.Florida there are distinct wet and dry seasons with extensive wildfires common late in the dry season. So unsurprisingly there have been recent fires raging in Big Cypress National Preserve and Ocala National Forest and it is not uncommon for extensive fires to start up in the Everglades. In fact if nature or careless humans don't provide the spark this time of year, controlled burns need to be done to maintain the integrity of the ecosystems which have evolved depending on fire to support biodiversity.Similar to how hurricanes and water during the wet season also reinvigorate and bring life to the ecosystems.
So I am eyeing the arrival of car transport tractor trailers around here with glee as it marks the end of the dry "season" when the snowbirds clogging the sidewalks and beaches with "who farted" looks head north due to heat and humidity to be replaced by women running around in next to nothing and more wildflowers and life in the wilderness areas.

Send rain here! Central FL is in a drought with wildfires burning all over the place. I can smell smoke in the air daily. All of our local counties are on a burn ban and water restrictions. I think some rain is headed our way this week, but our temps have been in the mid 90's already. I cannot wait to escape to the Blue Ridge this summer!

yeah, it's a great lazy-kinda river to paddle, but fun. I've still yet to buy myself a boat, but did the Harpeth dozens of times in my younger years. no camping, though (someone told me that it's cool as long as your on an island, but I don't know if that's true or not... I can't think of that many suitable islands anyway).
yeah man, that's the spirit --just need to convince the wife. she just turned three a few weeks ago. we're planning to give camping a try sometime this spring... maybe backpacking if it works out OK. it's fun taking her out on the trails, but also hard to keep her going in the same direction.

I didn't realize you all were in a drought. Last year was terrible.....way below normal on rain fall, and as a result, we had many wild fires as well.... Van.....we got another 2 inches today.....wish I could force it down your way.... Ashepabst....I've floated the Harpeth quite a few times myself......lovely river....have you floated the Duck?

i have not floated the Duck River but I have seen pictures when doing research --very pretty river. I did a week's trip on the Buffalo once (west TN); a couple of day trips on the Caney Fork; an overnight on the Green River in KY; did TSRA's tandem school on the Hiwassee for three years; and a group trip on the Ocoee --all kinds of fun waters in TN.

Finally got some much needed rain here. Woke up to thunder and lightening at 5am this morning. Lasted for about 4-5 hours. Nice thing is the weather cooled off considerably and we'll have a low of 59 tonight with a high of only 80 tomorrow! Back to the mid 90's by Monday....

I hope it's helping to calm those fires that are going on down there.
