Love the turtle pics. Where I live, the most commonly encountered turtles are big nasty snappers. (Not the Alligator Snappers like in Louisiana, but big enough that they will take a good chunk out of you, and they ain't cute.) Where I grew up in Michigan, we used to see a lot of beautiful painted and map turtles, as well as the "so ugly they're cute" soft-shells.

This below be good stuff for Earth monkeys and rabbits. All the rain the last 3 months here in Northern California has by now with April near, made many sunny mid day California low elevation landscapes glow wonderful greens. Better if one knows, there are places with impressive wildflowers too. Historically the zone at the ridge of Pacheco Pass of highway SR152, that also has wind farms, has in recent past decades had the most dense seedbeds of a diverse mix of regional wildflowers blue oak savanna grassland landscapes. Lots of public lands, 12 square miles right at ironically little visited Pacheco Pass free to walk around off trails just like deer and elk do there.
Will be going back when breezes are low again that is next Friday 3/31. Else even with focus stack blending, I can't blend sharp composites like this frame edge to frame edge top to bottom, unless elements are reasonably still allowing alignments. Immersive on 8k it will be. There are 9 species, California poppy, California violet, goldfields, filaree, blue dicks, Padres shooting stars, tomcat clover, miner's lettuce. The two small trees in the third crop are blue oak of which the pass has many spectacular larger wind shaped blue oaks. nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.ashx?DocumentID=87769&inline
Single frame captured Friday March 27, 2023 Location Pacheco Pass slopes
1920x1080 pixel crop from frame exact lower left corner
1920x1080 pixel crop from frame mid right below center horizontal line
1920x1080 pixel crop from frame mid left above horizontal center line
full downsized for web image from 5900x3800 pixels
from 35 focus stack blended images.

davesenesac those are simply gorgeous. It’s been too long since I’ve seen anything from you. We are still getting rain in upside down lakes over the house and the flowers are starting but late. I saw my first blooming rhododendron but most are closed tightly, daffodils are everywhere. My pear and plums are blooming but the cherry tree isn’t really close. It’s spring break and we are thinking of going to the snow but it keeps coming almost to us.

An Owl, a Surfboard, and a supernova. I shot this iconic pair a couple of weeks ago as it's an easy target for just a single nights imaging. The Owl Nebula, M97 is a relatively "close" 2,030 light years away while the Surfboard Galaxy, M108 is 46 million light years away. It is just happenstance that the two appear so close together in this tight field of view. A couple of days after I took this, I got the notification that a new supernova had been detected in M108, and sure enough, I had captured it. It doesn't look like much, but this is one single star seen 46 million light years away, as it underwent one of the most cataclysmic explosions known to man.

The Poor Mans "Hubble Deep Field"...This is Abell Galaxy Cluster 1656, the Coma Cluster of galaxies. There are over 1,000 members of the cluster, located 321 Million light years away. This frame of the central region covers an area just slightly larger than the moon. I have included an annotated version labeling all of the galaxies.

after wanting a pet for her whole life. The neighbor’s dogs and cats enticed into our yard finally have competition. Out of 102 applicants for the six dogs graduating from Pelican Bay State Prison’s obedience program, my granddaughter was accepted to adopt this 11 month old shepherd/ malamute mutt and they brought her home yesterday.

Looks more like a shepherd/malinios mix but either way it will be a great dog for her!

Coolkat the prison ran her DNA. Even though she is only 47 pounds there is a bit of mastiff too 5% and this and that for a pure blood American Mutt but no Malinois
