Yesterday it was 56* and 90% humidity here both when we left at noon and got back at 6. We drove 90 miles there and the temp kept going up to 106* and we were stalled in the car an hour for a wreck. Then the Dr said his knee looks good, but stiffer, so he has to work on bending it more now that the immobilizer is gone. We do the trip again next Tuesday too, but his appointment is early so we’ll get a Monday night motel and break the drive into two days.

I ran a Spartan Race on Saturday... the Palmerton Super. I'm still recovering. I was fine on the uphills and crushed the downhill trail running. But the first two strength obstacles went horribly (usually my strong point). I felt so bad after the second (shakes, etc.) that I almost gave up. Got some water and gummies and that seemed to help. No issues the remainder of the race (only failed one more [very tough] obstacle). Distance: 7.26 mi Elev Gain: 2,619 ft Time: 3h 15m moving time (does not include time waiting for my brother) Weather: 82F (shade), humid, sunny. Watch recorded a consistent 95F (in the sun).

WWBF, I can’t even imagine exerting that hard in temps and humidity like that. You are indeed a tough guy.

WWBF, I can’t even imagine exerting that hard in temps and humidity like that. The reason I've purposely been training on hot days. It paid off. On the second climb, my brother (a few minutes behind me) saw someone on the side of the trail and asked if he was OK. The guy replied, "No. My skin hurts." A call for a medic rang out. According to my brother, a cardiologist student caught up and noted the guy had a low pulse. Someone else noted he wasn't sweating and some other guys poured some of their camelpak water on him. I was oblivious and just kept going up the hill. Upon reaching the top, I heard a safety volunteer talking on a walkie-talkie, giving the wrong location of the distressed racer. I, along with two other racers, gave him the correct location. According to some racers who caught us later in the race, the medics came and evacuated the racer, who was doing better at the time of the rescue.

Yeah, seems like doing such events in such conditions is pretty risky.

Two weeks to the day from surgery to post op visit. Staples removed from his leg, and my husband was told he looks great, can do the 6 week follow up appointment online unless there are problems, which means he assesses himself on readiness to return to work after 4 weeks and readiness to drive now that he is off pain meds, even Tylenol. He set the date for second knee replacement on Dec 23 and I flipped out, no way was I having Christmas be in recovery, so they moved it to Dec 16.

echo, Dec. 23 would be awkward for people who have to travel for the surgery! I'm glad they were able to move it a bit. Heat here has moderated just a little, so that I finished my hike today at 9 a.m. and it was still okay. I'm kind of boggled that when I woke this morning at 6:25 my reaction was that I'd overslept. When did 6:25 become oversleeping??! (Answer: when the temps started hitting 80 by 8 a.m.). I really hope fires and smoke cooperate for all the high Sierra time we have planned for next month.

Good morning,
Every weekday last week and this I have taken my granddaughter to swimming lessons. I was watching the swim lessons and got distracted. When I looked back , I noticed one of the bigger girls, very confidently pulling ahead in a race across the deep end. Then I looked back where Daisy’s class had been and couldn’t find her. Only after a moment of confusion and nervousness did I realize she was the big girl. And she won the race when I hadn’t even know she could swim across the pool.
That was fun, but blew the last functioning part of my mind

Too funny, echo! They do grow up fast when our backs are turned, but you wouldn’t expect it quite *that* fast 🤣

Good morning
We have been so lucky that it feels like the news about fires and heat are from another planet. Blue skies, 68* weather, no wind. My biggest problem outdoors was deer loving my sunflowers. Last night I took Daisy to swim lessons, and then took her and a friend for Mexican food, and then to play in a park, and then to family swim. Honestly, by the park time, I was muttering “I’m dying,” after every movement I made. Everything hurt so much, but then family swim. My husband can’t go in until a few more small scabs around staple holes on his knee heal, and so it was me and the girls, and the water makes moving so much easier. After 20 minutes I was feeling great, even doing summersaults and diving. After the swim, and driving back (about an hour in the car) I slept all night and feel amazing today.

A week later, and still morning for 32 minutes. Have a great weekend everyone. My bionic husband took his new knee back to work this week. The Granddaughter learned to dive, she has done it before but yesterday it clicked and she did it over and over in her lesson then came out giggling with excitement that she will be able to do it in public swim now. I went to two Dr.’s this week and did a bunch of lab work and started tapering off the Cymbalta after 26 months on it, because I have no idea how I am without it by now. between pool times we went to the beach

echo, it’s so good to see that your granddaughter is taking to swimming so well. It remains a small worry for me that my boys just didn’t seem to click with the water. It’s been hot here, of course, and the last several mornings have been smoky, especially in the upper park where I like to hike (it’s where the hills are, so the best for training). Air is better this morning, but temps aren’t. When the overnight low is in the mid-70s, you don’t get a cool morning for exercise.

Good Morning. Today is going to be taking a couple girls to swimming and tomorrow is my youngest grandchild’s party, as in they are camping up in the mountains and we are meeting them up there for a day trip. I’m not sure if I can do it but I’m determined to get up there and have fun with the three grandkids. I survived coming off Cymbalta and don’t think I’m in any more pain or any more depressed but I can’t just sleep through it, and I’m not drifting through the day in a fog. So I have been waking up at 3 or 4 and inhaling nsaids instead, but I like feeling like myself even if it means also feeling the hurting too.
I’m stuck in a covid hot spot with no hospital beds left, so haven’t pushed for the referral to UCSF but I need to get on that soon as it will take months even in good times
