I usually go for a 1-mile walk during lunch to clear my mind and get the blood flowing. The area of my office is heavily commercial with a good deal of traffic. My route avoids as much as possible. I cross a busy street, walk on sidewalks to a school, take the school driveway (virtually no traffic) to the next street crossing, then wind my way through some office park developments back to my office. Well, just last week, CSX closed down a rail line a little less than 1/4 mile from my office... near the aforementioned school. The rail line traverses some undeveloped swampy areas. Since I don't have to worry about trains now, I walked it during lunch. It was quite nice, and the change from traffic noise to bird songs was abrupt. I wish the footing was a bit better, but I can get used to this walk. "Old" walk in red, "new" walk in blue:

Good morning again.
I hope that you have something to smile about today. My coffee was good and I feel rested and loved so life is mostly good.

Still morning... Just.
I’m heading down to the Bay Area for the weekend to foregather with my sons and visit friends (they’ll visit theirs, I’ll visit mine 😄).
I’ve been laying pretty low, recovering from routine, but non-trivial surgery. I’ll have my post-op follow-up next Wednesday and find out if I can start being a bit more active. Gotta start getting ready to carry a pack!

Good Morning,
When I woke up this morning, my husband was heading out the door to go to work. I took a moment to stretch and walked out to the kitchen, knowing there would be hot coffee waiting for me. And after pouring a cup and grabbing my tablet, I called upstairs to warn the girl she has zoom school in an hour. Then I shuffled into the dining room and stopped. Spread out on the table were dark chocolate caramels, brownies and chocolate cheesecake, and huge strawberries. There was a card for our 37th anniversary. I had to smile. So many times over the years I have had to admit I have never done anything to deserve him. He’s just a added blessing that I appreciate every day.
When I think about it, the same is true for so many people in my life. I’m blessed with really good people in my family, friends, co-workers. The fact that I’ve had a few really bad people for neighbors and administrators doesn’t come close to negating the good ones. Anyway, some of my favorites are here on these boards, so when yo7 wonder why a day hiker, car camper, more photographs than steps! outdoor lover,! Is on a Backpacking board, it’s because of the real life friends I made here.

echo, that's a wonderful and emotional tribute to your husband and the people here. (I think I got a chocolate headache just dreaming about all that chocolate!)

Good Afternoon.
We have three more zoom sessions this week for her first grade, then the devices have to be returned to the school the day after Memorial Day. So even though technically June 11 is her last day of this very strange first grade, I don’t know what she has to do beyond this week in reality.
I’m ready for some River days but the River looks great for August, and that is scary because it’s only June and the Cave Junction Fire department already had a fire this weekend. When our asbestos Forrest is this droughty it is almost unheard of.

Good afternoon! I spent a wonderful we’re-all-vaccintated-now weekend in the Bay Area with my 2 sons and our friends. Just such a joy to spend some real time with folks.

I had a training class in Chittenango, NY... birthplace of Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz. The village has a "yellow brick sidewalk" running through its entire length. A portion in the village square: (it appears more yellow in real life)

Good morning! As it prepares to get insanely hot here, I’m working on adjusting my routines to get significant exercise done before 9 a.m.
Eldest Son proposed we head for the mountains, but that will have to wait until after the holiday weekend. No worries—it’s going to stay in the triple digits through next week. 😟

Good morning, this Memorial Day to all of you. I know, not exactly morning, but still not a bad day here. After a month of “no mow may” for a photography challenge, my husband got out and mowed the field we have surrounding our house. And I got the inside of the house a bit less cluttered. He has knee replacement in a month and we need to raise the bed and some chairs and make sure a walker can fit everywhere.

Good Morning.
So I’m home from being trained how to be my husband’s “joint coach” as he gets both knees replaced, one June 30 and one in December. This Dr is detailed, passionate and has nearly perfect success rates but his demands mostly all happen before the surgery so we are in the middle. It’s kind of fascinating.
At the same time I’m supposed to get an appointment at a tertiary care center at UCFS for my own health issues, this means lots of “ologists” at once instead of getting referred from one to another with months in between as has been the case.
So, the fun trips we were starting to plan, are back on hold until we are both Doctored up sufficiently.
I’m hoping the lack of activity here indicates most of you are on fun trips already this summer.

One of the Presidential Fleet planes was doing take-off/landing exercises at the airport yesterday.

walkswithblackflies , I'm envious! My father lived near a smaller but busy airport; sometimes we used to go there and just watch the single engine planes practice their take-offs and landings. The best take-offs I think were at the end of a Selfridge ANG base show. I sat down on the tarmac and watched the old B-24 and 25 warm up, then take off. I think that might also have been the show at which a Lancaster was also on display. Fascinating! rebeccad, congratulations to your son!

autumnmist - Predator/Reaper drones are common overhead since our local airport is the main drone test facility in the US. We saw one last week that sounded different (they have a unique sound)... maybe a Global Hawk? Before the drones, we had F16's based here, and would often see their practice dogfights. As an extra treat, we had F22's (or were they F35's?) flying overhead last year, and they were showing off a bit. One of the most impressive maneuvers is seeing the C5's doing their touch-and-goes. They just don't look right when they're flying... almost like they're levitating.
