rebeccad . I found if I shop as soon as they open, I can get in and out quickly. I was going to say I wasn’t worried about the time, but of course, the faster I’m in and out, the less likely I am to infect anyone, if I am sick. I think we have enough milk for today, and I need to sew a mask or two before going out, though I might have one in the shop . So far, so good on the infection watch, but of course it restarted when Second Son got here.

Del Norte county got its first positive test today, so that’s a negative. On the positive side, my son’s client tested negative even with having pneumonia so my son is off quarantine. Of course the negative of that is he now is back to being an essential worker so going out among the people again.
So far, I’m half stir crazy but doing enough to moderate that. Like last night the girl stayed up until 6 AM as practice so tonight we will drive to the beach before sunset to watch the Aleutian Geese take off from the small Island that they overnight on. It’s pretty amazing to watch at least once or twice.

Good morning.
Outside my window it is becoming beautifully springtime, Rhodes and cherries in pink bloom, calla lily and plum trees, white blossoms. Yesterday it poured and today it’s steamy. We have been here from her last day of school on March 13. It’s easier on us than most, we have space and four people who truly like being together, and are all self entertained x BUT x it’s still driving me nuts today. I got out and went for a walk, all the neighborhood dogs greeted me, a few people hollered “howdy” from their porches, but there was no, “contact” and even for this introvert

walkswithblackflies, your post immediately brought to mind videos of Norm Abrams selecting downed logs for one of his woodworking projects.

walkswithblackflies, your post immediately brought to mind videos of Norm Abrams selecting downed logs for one of his woodworking projects. I already have a couple of piles of sticks/twigs. I got an "alaskan sawmill" for Christmas... it's an attachment for a chainsaw that will allow me to make planks. What I didn't know is that it takes a special chain, which I should be getting for my birthday this month. I'd like to start making rustic furniture... I just never had the time. I'm currently working full time, but that could change any minute. If I get laid off, I'll have no problem keeping myself busy.

Slowly working our way through the 2 week self-quarantine we decided was right after we all got home from different places (my husband and I got home last Saturday, but we had to restart the clock when Second Son arrived on Wednesday). Aside from really wanting to go buy my own groceries, this isn’t so hard, as I realize that I never go out anyway. (Okay, that isn’t really true. I miss our exercise classes at the gym, and I REALLY miss going to the pool for my lap swim).
I had thought that I’d get a ton of writing work done, but the truth is that with all the time in the world, I waste more time. I’m starting to get annoyed with myself.
On the up side: SS’s pet snake got comfortable enough last night to come out of hiding and display herself. Beautiful creature.

Just because you all like photos. Milkshake is a Sinaloan milksnake. Her colors are actually quite a bit more intense than this--really a true orange.

She is beautiful. I’ve always admired snakes since watching my biology teascher’s red racer slurp down a mouse like spaghetti. But my brother-in-law has truly created a respect for the critters that is astonishing when I consider that my mom had to leave the room every time one came on the tv, she was so afraid of them.
Today, I was noticing new blooms ready to unfurl on my calla lily and that the pear tree has leaves among the blossoms now and I realized that I’ve barely looked at the calendar as the meetings and appointments and jobs came off it, and now I’m judging the passage of time by changes in the plants.

We saw a fisher or otter across the creek yesterday.
I went for a bike ride with the family. Only the 3rd time on the bike this year. The weather has been OK for hiking, but not ideal for biking.
Garlic is popping up. I had my first serving of chives this past weekend. I ground 14 stumps over the weekend (ouch) and tilled the extra chips into the garden. 1.5 passes with the tiller so far and the ground is breaking up nicely. I got a simple but dreaded project done yesterday... replacing a wood pole in the corner of the garden (I had to remove it due to our new shed). Sounds easy but after 8" of topsoil, it is all rocks below. Thankfully, it wasn't as bad as I anticipated.

Yesterday I tore open boxes in the storage room, and found some old plasterish eggs my Dad made in 1990 at the wallboard factory where he worked. My family painted them at last, only thirty years late. Today is colder and every joint in my body hurts like it’s filled with sharp bits of glass, not sure if it was moving boxes yesterday, the weather or just my issues flaring up, but I’m not doing much today. Still seeing those eggs with the double memory of when my Dad made them and my granddaughter painting them, and I’m smiling.

Took a stroll through the garden yesterday as a relief from the dreary articles and newscasts about the pandemic. My Siberian Squills are close to full bloom now, covering an area that spreads overnight and now is about 50' wide by 55' deep and growing. Daffodils are in bloom, as are some small, tiny white flowers that are volunteers. I have no idea yet what they are. Peonies are up about 4", trilliums are up about 2", daylilies about 6" near the house and a few inches taller in the garden. I see signs of Lunaria here and there, but thus far they're not growing as quickly as they normally do. Some crocus are still blooming in areas where the squirrels voluntarily (or arbitrarily) took over gardening responsibility. Lemon balm should be up soon. walkswithblackflies, your tree and stump removal activities are inspiring. If I think of how much you've accomplished, maybe I can motivate myself to start on the many volunteer trees in the garden, some of which are going into my long planned wattle fences. Others will be sacrificed to the city's shredder.

I've an appointment, on Sat., to give blood. As a general donation or specifically for antibodies?

Hope the silence here means that everyone is doing better things than hanging out on the internet, not that no one is having a good morning! I had a really nice bike ride and hike in the park, which aside from near the TH was pretty much empty this morning, just the way I like it.

Silence here is from digging in and cleaning out. With such a high rate of infection in the city and county, I'm doing some non legal type estate planning.

Good morning, I think I’m silent because of the sameness of every day. The minor differences sometimes just don’t seem notable
But we are doing well enough, a bit stir crazy, fortunate in where we live and able to get everything we need.
The display of spring in my yard lifts my mood even in these days.
