Bishop, CA - easy access to the most beautiful mountains on Earth! It's also where I was born and raised. I currently live 3 hours from there, so I'm pretty happy

I was in Hood River yesterday, Big Load! Neat town. I enjoy White Salmon, Bingen, and Stevenson across the river on the Washington side, too. It's definitely a tourist town in a great and scenic location. Close enough to PDX to swing into the city for a night away from HR. Yes, the micro-climates found in the Gorge are unique. Yes, I like the Washington side, too, although it's a lot smaller. I spent some time in Bingen and White Salmon, and a couple times I walked every inch of street in Bingen at lunch, looking for the perfect place. I know a handful of people that work in Hood River, but live in Portland. To me that seems like an odd inverse commute, but that's the way they like it.

Given a choice, I'd move back to New England and find something near Portland, ME.
