I've used a Deuter Zero 30 for a number of years for long day hikes/snowshoeing. They no longer make that pack, but they offer the Futura 26 and AC Aera 30 as close replacements. I can easily fit my gear in the Zero 30. I even can lash small snowshoes (Yowies) to the back. The other Deuters are heavier than the Zero 30 (1375g) pluis a little smaller. I really like the Deuter Aircomfort back system, especially in the summer. I also insist on being able to carry two water bottles that I can reach (bladders are out of the question). Anybody have an opinion on the Futura 26 and AC Aera 30? I'd consider a different brand with similar features/specs, though there's not a large variety to try in Helena. Thanks!

I have a Deuter Airlite 22. I just did a 17 mile hike using it last Saturday loaded with about 15 pounds. Temperature was between 72*-77*. The Aircomfort System worked great to keep my back nice and cool. The size of the pack is perfect for me for long day hikes. Rides great on my back with no hot spots or pain anywhere. I also have a Deuter Speed Lite 20 that I love but prefer the Airlite for warm weather.
