This morning at church. They may be considered nuisance birds, but babies are always cute, and my daughter was so excited to see them when we pulled in.

I saw some little ones last week also but was a little surprised they were about already this far north.

DD, fyi, those are House Finches. Great pic, I love how the male looks like he's covered in saguaro fruit juice!

DD, fyi, those are House Finches. Great pic, I love how the male looks like he's covered in saguaro fruit juice! I checked all the finches. There are a couple of look alikes. Are you confusing the juice from the Saguaro fruit for the red breast of the house finch? I have a photo from the same time with the one on the left completely inside the popped fruit. Have a look at the collection of "Streaked Sparrows" I'm referencing Peterson Field Guide to Western Birds.

They're definitely House Finches, take another look at the field guide. The pics in the Peterson guide aren't the best, but you can see the markings and coloration (which varies somewhat) of the male and female. I've seen thousands of these, they frequent our feeders here in Texas. Song Sparrows typically have a distinct central spot, and a rounded tail (you can see the forked tail on the bird on the left in your photo. Also Song Sparrows are usually skulky birds in areas of heavy low vegetation, you don't usually see them up high and out in the open like this. Here's another photo of a pair on a saguaro I found on the web. link

Fair enough.
But, let's get some more opinions. Anyone want to chime in?
