Cross Bill Finch. The top bill is split. I think it was damaged eating popcorn kernels that are dropped on the patio floor instead of pine cone seeds. l

Reading around the 'net I couldn't find reference to a double-split bill, I figured it was an injury.

Fang. Finch got a fang for you. Fangtastic. Hell of an overbite. I'd be cross too.
Maybe a birth defect. I think an injury would be split further away from the skull. This looks like it grew that way. Are bird bills like beaver teeth, constantly growing, or are they one and done?
I gotta get back to packing and moving.

Looks genetic to me. A duplication of a gene?

Good shot of the Mexican Jay! I have trouble catching those. It's frustrating, because they make such a racket when other birds are about, so I know roughly where they are, but I just can't get one in the viewfinder long enough.

This morning, one of our first in the new home, we saw two fishing birds around the pond. An Osprey hit the water hard and something resembling a kingfisher was hovering off and on. Later we saw a Cooper's hawk fly out of the pasture with a ground squirrel. A very nice way to be welcomed to our new home. Condolences to the squirrel's family.
I know nothing about photographing birds, but I will be learning. Several posters on this forum have inspired me to develop photography skills. Thank you and please keep posting those wonderful pictures.

Freaky looking. I assume you know this, but just in case, that's not a Crossbill, it's a House Sparrow. I would guess it's a genetic defect rather than an injury. Bird looks nice and healthy, though, guess he's not starving to death.

That's a Freaky looking House Sparrow.
But, it also makes more sense.

I love the scarlet macaw. I've a green-wing I got when it was 18 that has been with us 23 years now.

Thinking of the damaged bill reminds me, I had a mini macaw that I bought from a woman after it escaped and landed on the power lines and was sprayed down by a fireman and broke its beak on the asphalt, it took three years of grinding it every six weeks with a Drexel as it grew out to remove the damage and reshape the beak but eventually she could crack Brazil nuts again
