Has anyone else here ever had to have their knees drained of fluid? I have had small fluid sacs around the knees for a couple of years now, and just went to the doctor this week. I have no pain to speak of, but the knees do tend to be stiff, which I just chalked up to arthritis & getting old. ( I have been diagnosed with arthritis). The doctor drained about 40 cc's of fluid from my left knee. The next day it felt great. More range of movement, hardly any stiffness. I am glad I had it done. My question is this...are my hiking days done? The doctor says no, but after seeing that yellow liquid draining form the knee I am not so sure. She also gave me a blood test for Lyme disease. In the 80's I was at Antietam Battlefield, which is still quite rural, and I remember getting a very itchy left shin bone, ,then a little numbness for a while in the lower left leg. I do remember seeing a bulls-eye type of mark on the shin area. It didn't seem to bother me at all so I ignored it (Hey I am a guy). Has anyone else faced this issue(s)?

I had fluid drained a few years ago. It made a huge difference. I didn't experience the rest though. I'm glad they drained the fluid vs. sending me straight to surgery like so many docs want to do. It made a world of difference in my movement and pain level (I had a torn meniscus.). I was told to limit my bending for several weeks and avoid hills too. While I have knee pain regularly when going down steps or hills, I still hike. It's not bad enough to keep me down. My feet on the other hand, have limited me for awhile, but they've gotten better, and I'm back to walking more.

Every now and then a Baker's cyst (fluid pocket) forms behind my knee. It is not painful, but causes swelling and can be annoying. I rotate ice and heat and stay off it for a few days and it goes away.

Just finishing some physical therapy on Baker's Cyst. Was bad enough that couldn't bend knee. Knee has been taped up, alternating ice and heat. Finally able to bend knee without discomfort.
