Caribou Wilderness, adjacent to Lassen Park, is also gentle terrain, but with somewhat more understory. However, with all the moisture this winter I expect the mosquitoes to be horrifically hellish rather than the normal terrible. Go to the Caribou in the Fall after a couple of good frosts knock back the mosquitoes to a tolerable level. Do not even consider it mid summer. You need rocks in your pockets to keep from being carried away by a buzzing stygian cloud.
