Are you planning to continue backpacking after this trip? If not, I wouldn't recommend spending more than $70 on the bag. Honestly, if you don't have any plans to use the bag afterwards, I would just rent a pack for the trip.
If you are really set on making a purchase and not being able to test it, then here are a few features I would recommend. Try to get a pack that has pockets on the hip belts. Those come in handy if you need quick access to snacks or a camera or something. Less commonly, try to get a pack with a large front opening. A large access to the inside will make your trip so much better. Lastly, make sure your bag has a lot of places to hook and hang things. Look for straps that you can tie other gear onto. A lot of the newer bags have a very sleek and stylish look, but unfortunately, they also have very little in the way of carrying gear on the outside.
