SnowNymph (a frequent responder on several forums) had a head net over a MSR brimmed hat, top with sleeves and long pants made of mosquito netting. Under this she wore running shorts and top. It drew attention from most she passed. It called up an apparition like she was down to her last three veils. Besides that she is a consummate athlete and a good hiking partner as well as a top flight snow boarder.

She's lopping yerba santa out of a trail in the Santa Barbara backcountry.
BTW, I've worn my head net locally for flies, but mosquitoes are never a problem.

Wife and I carried head nets since early years in Canadian Rockies - WOW! I have a shot of her head back lit with the sun. It looked like a cloud. I could slap my hands once together around my face and collect 20 squashed critters.
While hiking the HSF west to east (since the only entry was from Horseshoe Meadow) the only very VERY bad infestation was taking the high trail above Moraine Lake. There was a 1/4 mile of trail that was in a more than usual low growth dense patch that even with head nets, it was disrupting. DEET didn't discourage the Kamikaze. Once through that we were above it on a long high meadow and made camp at 10,400 about near the Chagoopa Creek. Not a mosquito and only about a mile from skeeter hell. Good thing, we would have been drained as it had been a long long trek from Upper Funston Meadows below. Probably one of the better ever overnights we've spent. After dinner we lay out on the grass in the meadow looking up watching swallows darting, thunder heads growing, and almost being stepped on by a deer. Neither of us knew we were there until she stepped between wife's lower legs, startling both. No mosquitos there either.

I used the eucalyptus oil Repel on my recent Sierra trip. Not all that many Mosquitos but a few dusks near meadows once I was getting landed on I applied the product and the landings stopped. I was only carrying a small Cutter stick so I didn't do the A/B of applying different stuff on either arm. Hey I was on vacation: controls are for the lab.
Nice smell, nice feel. I'd use it again.
