I have stopped backpacking due to my back. It has been a problem since I was a teen but has gradually been getting worse. After my last 300 mile BP on the AT the problem increase so off for another MRI. The MRI showed progression form my previous scan so I now day hike which does not give me a problem. I am not a big fan of pain!

I am not a big fan of pain! Nope me neither Roger. Are you still up for weekend or week long trips? BTW, that is one of my favorite Mark Twain quotes. Puts a smile on my face and glow in the heart each time I read it.

I had a microdiscectomy in May 2016 for a herniated disc at L4L5. No issues with pain since the surgery, but residual numbness and weakness in my right leg. I've made friends with it, for the most part, and believe now that it is likely permanent. As for my back, I have more issues with bending to pick something up and carrying things with my arms than I do with carrying a pack on my back. Qualify that by saying I have gone backpacking once since the surgery. Gettin older, I guess.
