maybe having my dog with me will give me peace of mind! That was the case for me. Despite the fact that dog might (and will) bring some difficulties to your adventure, hiking with a dog feels much safer. You definitely should try! Don’t be disappointed of yourself, I was scared on my first hike too (despite the fact I wasn’t alone)!

Okay, I'm PROUD of myself! I went on my first solo in several years, and my first solo since my cancer ordeal from last year. I got a solo tent for Christmas last year, and just couldn't let the summer get away from me without trying out my new gear. My husband is an angel. He has no problem with my going alone and even dropped me at the trailhead and picked me up at the end. I hiked up into the San Juans of Colorado and had a little adventure. Ran into a large black bear blocking the trail (made a big detour up the mountainside to get past him to continue on my way), then had some thunder and lightening, wind and rain-- fortunately AFTER I had my tent set up and water boiled for dinner. It was a tough hike! Climbed 5,000 ft. the first day. But everything went smoothly and it helped rebuild my confidence that I have my strength back. So I am looking forward to another solo in the near future.

That is awesome, hikinggods -- I bet you smile from ear-to-ear every time you think about your adventure.

Thanks, it WAS awesome! I limped around slightly the next couple of days, but I'd say I pretty well have my legs back.
