It’s been awhile.so I finally decided it was time to check in and explain that I have actually been to the dermatologist and am inspected and rejected: nothing to report! Melanoma scar all healed over and nothing new to be concerned about. Okay,m that’s out of the way, so now I’d like to comment on diet! When this thread about diabetes was started, I know several people were explaining how my good they were finding with a Keto diet, shunning carbs and eating steaks fried in butter and adding cream to coffee, etc. Fat reported as a great way to lose weight! I’d like to point any Keto folks to watch a free video called Forks over Knives: Now Streaming For Free - Forks Over Knives Documentary to see how a 30-year study of the Chinese population documents what regions suffered what diseases based on regional diet practices. Hinf: Meat eaters suffered a number of problems. The movie shows how two doctors started a program to help people here who had health problems from heart ailments to diabetes, overcome and improve dramatically in a ten week diet eating on plant-based foods! It is wellworth watching, and meat eaters can decide if they might see a reason to change things. Now to my good news: I had seen the movie about six years ago, and was already eating very little meat. When I learned I was diabetic, I stepped away from obvious problem foods, but was pretty casual about portions. A few months ago, I watched the movie again and realized how much I had slipped. I got serious about going vegetarian, Five months ago my A1c was 6.4 again, and my doctor said IU was doing great. But last week I had my new A1c and it is 5.9! My blood panel is so normal there is really nothing to point out. Even my kidney function is well within normal range and much improved; five months ago I was a little;e out of the range and I was cautioned! Not today. So I just thought I would add a note of progress, and yes, I still eat Peanut Butter M&Ms, and do enjoy Flaming Cheetos at times.

I am jealous of your numbers, bp2go, but not enough so to alter my current diet. I am still hanging in the low 6 group (6.1-6.4) and able to get lots of exercise. All of my other numbers are fine and I got the go ahead to increase my workout for a goal to regain some lost stamina while walking uphill. Dr moved my blood work to every 6 months.

Good work, bp2go! Now, continue to be regular with the follow-ups on the melanoma. Not to be a fear-monger, but those things do have a way of coming back. Regular check-ups are pretty much the sole line of defense.

Yep, I can no longer hide. I have had my first "precancerous mole" removed, and it must have needed a good sized chunk of skin to go with it. Of course I can't see what was done but I certainly feel the result while the stitches are healing. And of course I just got the call to tell me I have nothing to report! All clear. But yes, now I have the standard return visit every three months. What fun. And the melanoma is old news. All healed a few months ago now. I just have a dandy new scar that to my funky vision looks like a multi-colored tattoo with shades of red. I'm told that is from the disruption of blood vessels getting cut away, new ones growing. Happy to report I have nothing to do but just let it happen. zeke , I was taken by surprise to drop that low! It was not something I was trying for, just a change of diet and that was my reward. I am loving having a CGM to monitor what's going one and see what Cheetos will do to ruin my daily stats! So far, so good.

So, after my Oct visit my Dr set my next blood work for 6 months. I did it this week and have my results. I dropped an entire point in my A1c, and lost 8 pounds. Through no real effort on my own. Yes, I've been eating more salads, and watching my carb intake, so that may account for the weight loss. The carbs I ate recently while on my camping trip were calculated to try to stay close to my regular limits, and they seemed to work OK.
New technician working on me and she had to try 3 different fingers looking for my Heart rate. Finally told her I am consistently under 52. It was 46 in their office that morning.
As for the biggest swap? I changed a couple of months ago from Cheerios to oatmeal for breakfast. Why? Well, the milk and cereal had more carbs (maybe 10 more?) than the oatmeal since I do not add milk to it, and the cinnamon and dehydrated apples satiate my desire for apple pie.

"Oatmeal hole" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "pie hole".

BigLoad Gruel Hole isn't right, either. The problem was, I was eating the pie whole.

Great work Zeke!
Every other day, we have fruit (this morning was elderberries and strawberries) and 5 grain hot cereal with lots of cinnamon and a couple of spoonfuls of chopped walnuts. I add plain yogurt because I need the calcium. I think it tastes a lot like pie.

My oatmeal might not be so low-carb, since I pile in the fresh fruit, but so far I have no blood sugar issues, so am not too worried. I am working on smaller portions and more salads, as I both need to lose a little weight and now am grounded for longer than I want from my usual more strenuous workouts.

I am working on smaller portions Your breakfasts are big. I don't know how you got them all into one food bag.

October blood work is fine. 6.2 A1c However, my Vitamin D is deficient so I am now on a supplement. I can only guess it has been my following the Dermatologist instructions to stay out of the sun.

New PCP as a result of my other Dr. retired. So, I am back on 4 month blood work. Last week’s lab results are in and my A1c was 6.4, including a few more treats in my diet. I am learning to moderate my portions better, particularly in regards to desserts and baked goods. All other bloodwork was within the ranges desired. No T test this time, but I haven’t had issues with testosterone deficiency.
