Almost all my socks are Smartwool but I have a few Coscto (Kirkland) brand thrown in. I would assume Sam's Club which is owned by the same company would have similar. Tigger, are you saying that Costco and Sam's Club are commonly owned? Because that's not right, Sam's is part of Wally World, Costco is a separate company.

I was given a pair of Heat Holders as a gift for work. Thought they were kinda hokey until I tried them out. I ended up getting another pair just for camp socks. VERY happy with them so far. They're a synthetic fabric, very loose weave with a terry almost fur like lining. www.heatholders.com/products/mens-original-socks

great advice I just got done reading ultralight backpacking book and I was wondering about socks thinning thin socks just didn't sound right for my feet. I learned from the Sierra Club WTC to wear thick over socks with a thin wicking liner sock. Last year I tried to newer thin double socks, with a thicker insole, to make up for the lost room, and had the most feet issues of all my backpacking trips. I have switched back to the thick sock with thin liner socks. And I know, that might just be me and how I roll.

wear thick over socks with a thin wicking liner sock. Yeah, that was the rule when I started backpacking. The double layer always gave me no end of trouble, though that was probably because it was before I figured out I needed smaller socks. A single pair of fairly fluffy Smartwool socks, combined with lightweight boots, has kept my feet blister-free for the last 15 or more years. As we like to say around here, HYOH, and YMMV and all that. Try different things and see what works for you. Some people like synthetics (like Thorlo) better than Smartwool. For me, those don't hold their shape well enough, and can end up with wrinkles. What's mostly guaranteed not to work anywhere are cotton socks.
