So I was away from the backpacker.com forums for quite a while, and apparently they gave oversight of their platform to the lowest bidder. I tried to reactivate my account and ran into all kinds of issues. I finally gave up and then saw the post about the new forums over here, so here I am. It's a shame, really. The old backpacker.com forums weren't too bad of a platform, but man the new ones, and the layout (in my opinion) just stink. I'm hoping these "basecamp" forums will prove to be a much better replacement.
Anyway, y'all probably don't remember me --and that's fine. I live in Bend, Oregon with my bride of 13 years and I'm a real estate agent. My main outdoors activities are hiking (of course) and bicycling and cycle touring, with the occasional stargazing activity thrown in for good measure.
This year I'm beginning a quest of sorts. I've been away from regular backpacking for a while, and at the age of 45 I know that it's time to get in gear before age really starts to limit me. I've decided to begin section hiking the PCT from near Willamette Pass, OR to Canada. Beginning next year, I intend to spend at least 7-9 days each year on a section, and possibly a bit more for the first Washington section, as it is 147 miles long (or I might split it, we'll see). This year, however, I don't have as much time available, and am going to have to split my first section hike (Willamette Pass to Mackenzie Pass) into two parts of about three days each. The good news is that I live in Bend, OR, which is only about 1 1/2 hours away from Willamette Pass, the starting point. So my first section hike is essentially in my back yard.
Well, that's about it. Thanks to those who created these replacement forums!
