Hi, look for suggestions.....we have a fairly experienced group of 6-7 "old folks (50s and 60s), who like doing 7-9 day backpack trips. Daily mileage 8-12. We have 2 weeks in mid-June and looking for suggestions. Prior great trips have been Sierras, Tetons, Winds, Weiminuche, Zion, and Canyonlands to name just a few. Since june is a bit early for high country stuff, looking for suggestions to get that alpine feeling that would be possible in June. We sometimes like tagging 2:4-5 day trips together, with a night of cold beer and hot showers in between. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We live all over the country, form New Jersey to Hawaii, so western US is about the only limitation..... and time. Mahalo for your assistance

In light snow years, the high country of the Sangres, in Colorado or Northern New Mexico (Pecos Wilderness) can be decently accessible in mid June. Creek/river crossings can be an issue at that time, though. You might also look at the Gila Wilderness in SW New Mexico, although temps in the canyons can get pretty hot by June. (I hiked the middle fork canyon in May a few years ago, and afternoon highs were in the 80s.)

Douglas Lorain has written a book on backpacking Washington and one on Oregon. He lists some hikes by months, very few before June and just a few in June, like going around St Helens (late June however). Like you said it is a bit early.

The eastern Pasayten Wilderness in WA can often work in June. The Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness in southeast WA is always doable in June--it's really the perfect time for long trips there. That said, I'm not sure I could do 7-9 days there. Depending on the snowpack, there may be some options in the Olympics. Maybe you could combine some hiking along the WA coast with forays into the Hoh Rainforest.
