I didn't find my park in 2016. Most of the large national parks are a good distance away from me. So I am stuck with state parks ( some of which are quite nice) or the AT in Maryland. The problem with both is that you end up hiking the same terrain over and over. This year I am planning ( this coming weekend actually) to try parks further away from my usual haunts: Greenridge in western Maryland, and the western Maryland rail trail in Washington/ Allegany County. I really need to vary my hikes to keep interest in the hobby.

Now, 2017 might be a year for skeeters!
I didn't have problems last year and I was prepared with skeeter hat, pants and shirt and carried deet all summer.
(Only in Sequoia part of SEKI once, though, last year...)

Found my park: Joshua Tree! Funny thing, I'll be celebrating my 40th in JTNP, listening to The Joshua Tree (U2's 2017 tour is coming!!) climbing a Joshua Tree (or rock)... Also visited in 2016 Rocky Mt NP, Arches, Canyonlands (Is. in the Sky and Needles), Bryce, Zion, Grand Canyon (N. Rim), and state parks. Wanted Yosemite, but also wanted to enjoy that visit, so decided to do it in 2017. It's SO AMAZING the beauty that's out there... I never want to return home to Chicago... the drive is utterly depressing. Yes, there were so many other visitors, and trying to hike was sometimes difficult. But in the end, that time spent in the parks only fueled the fire to return and explore more! Chomping at the bit to go... Wanderlust... ((sigh))
