I don't recall the drought of 07 resulting in so many wildfires. I know some of them have been set by arsonists, but most are true wildfires (I think).

Yeah...
This drought and these fires are the worst I've seen in the 20 years I've been down here...
A vast majority of these fires have been arson---the cohutta one is the lone exception that I can think of off the top of my head and that one was due to lightning...

Do they still consider it arson if it was accidental? Like a cigarette butt?

yeah......
throwing a cigarette out the window is arson...
also----a spark flying off the back of an ATV, if they are trespassing on the land, is considered arson....''
however, and not only do firefighters tell me this but so do police officers----arson is one of the hardest crimes to solve and prove in a court of law.....

the perimeter of the Maple Springs fire now stretches all the way up to Haoe damn that sucks. I read a story last night on wlos.com that they are using planes & helicopters to scoop water from the lakes to use on the fire. But they are unable to use flame retardant chemicals in any of the wilderness area.

There was a video on facebook of a plane swooping down and picking up water mid flight from Fontana...
At the fire I was at yesterday ---they had a helicopter but they weren't flying yesterday...
