So proud of our 4 year old son, he's been in preschool only part-time since February and he's reading and writing like a champ! So this summer we started doing junior ranger programs. Here he is at North Cascades NP, Olympic NP, and John Day Fossil Beds NM taking his junior ranger pledges and getting his badge! BTW, he looks pretty good in a flat hat, doesn't he? Maybe he'll follow in my footsteps     |

So cute! Our guys never wanted to do that kind of thing (they'd have died if they'd had to take the pledge and had all sorts of people looking on). But it's a great program.

If you ask the ranger I'm sure they'd bestow the badge w/o a ceremony, or do a private one. The first time T was shy but the ranger was so good with him, got down on one knee at his level and you could tell she loved doing this part of her job!

My kids love collecting their jr. ranger badges. We now plan more time at NPs for this purpose. Great thing for the whole family!

He got another one This time at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area. We went there last weekend, it's a very short jaunt from home and lots of pretty waterfalls to hike to!
