Last year when I ordered my WBBB XLC they offered suspension as an option. I just checked and they offer web, Whoopie, Beckett and none. Price varies based on what you choose.

Snake Skins must have been the name I bought from a source I can no longer find. May have been from MountainGoat, that's where I got mine about 5 years ago. A one-woman operation, everything was handmade by a woman named Kat. Her home burned down in the California fires last year, and I don't think she's in business any longer.

Hennessey sells them
My WBBB came with the double ended stuff sack. It is pretty quick and easy but I could see where the snakeskin wrapped hammock could be fit into your pack better. Snakes are good at fitting in small spaces.

I don't remember the source of my snakeskin, but the woman who made them was named Katrina or Katarina.

It is pretty quick and easy but I could see where the snakeskin wrapped hammock could be fit into your pack better. Snakeskins are generally used for your tarp, not your hammock. They allow you to set your tarp, then put it in the sleeves, so that you have an open view, but can deploy the tarp very quickly, if needed. Storing the tarp sleeved in your pack makes it a bit bulkier, but not too bad. I don't remember the source of my snakeskin, but the woman who made them was named Katrina or Katarina. That would have been Kat at MountainGoat. See my post above.

I use snake skins on both my hammock and my tarp. I find they allow for the bulk to find small spaces in the pack, while keeping the lines from tangling.

I prefer a double-ended bishop bag for my hammmock, the hammock packs loose, and then can squish into small spaces in my pack. Clearly another example of personal preference.

Tomorrow, Monday, I plan to order the original blackbird, and while their super fly tarp will have to wait a while due to price of both, I see that it's about as close to being a tent that one could get without it being an actual tent.

I have the Mamajama (thanks for the recommendation trinity and all). I have used it in heavy rain and kept me dry. It is almost 1/2 pound lighter and less expensive than the Superfly. If you want to try a similar but less expensive version I have some of Wise Owl's other products and they are good. www.amazon.com/dp/B073GP362W/?coliid=I1LJ7GG81BWTQM&colid=BRLJJJ5Z9ZJV&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I have a question for the experienced hammockers. How long does it take for you to get it setup?

I have a question for the experienced hammockers. How long does it take for you to get it setup? I am still an amateur at hammocking but it definitely takes me longer than to set up my tent. Breakdown is about the same as a tent. Maybe a touch quicker. So if you want numbers I would say that generally my tents take about ten minutes to set up including throwing in the stuff that goes into the tent. The hammock is more like 20-25 minutes with getting it and the fly all adjusted. Being able to throw up the fly and keep drier in the rain while doing all this is a big plus. Also you can sit in the hammock under the fly all comfy. No need for a camp chair.
For right now I have a short length of paracord that I use to hang my food-less pack either on the hang trees or one nearby. I also have been hanging my boots, sometimes in a kitchen garbage bag for the rain, on it as well. I know people put both their pack and boots on the ground under the hammock/fly but I worry about salt hungry rodents. Hanging might make a little hard for them.

How long does it take for you to get it setup? I'd say about 5-10 minutes. I find it easier and simpler than a tent.

I have been always putting up the tarp but here in the NE a brief shower is always possible overnight. trinity (and others if they want to chime in) do you always put up your tarp? I can see just the hammock being only about 10 minutes

One of the reasons I ask is because on my hike this fall I had to setup my tent in the rain. Not really a big deal since the inner "nest" is attached to the fly. However, the more I think about it, if you can string your tarp first before the hammock then you'd still have dry sleeping when setting up in the rain.

Well, during the first year or so, I'd say it took me 15-20 minutes to get everything just right, and loading the gear inside. 10 years later, it takes me 10-15 minutes. Same process, it's just that I am better about getting the height right for the tree straps so I don't have to go back and forth adjusting things. I do hang my tarp every time, but there are occasions where it stays in the snake skins. If I have to deploy it in the middle of the night, that makes it a bit easier. Skin it, and push in 4 stakes. Done. I might add that it has been a while since I bothered to concern myself with how long, because I am usually blissfully going about my chores. Just being out there, in the trees, is a great feeling. I used to carry small wired stoppers like climbers might use, to attach to rocks or rock face when the trees were scarce. I stopped carrying them and just go to the ground now.
