I have talked about this a bit here and there, discussed in depth with some privately, and alluded to it several times; but several years ago my glaucoma got out of control and I became legally blind. I am not white cane blind, just legally blind, which is a legal category descrption of vision loss. My left eye is just about totally useless and I have less than 20* of 20/40 correct vision in my right eye. I will never regain any vision lost because it is due to dead nerves.
One complication of treating glaucoma is the more rapid onset of cataracts and mine has advanced enough that I now need the cataract surgery. It is a simple surgery with a very low risk, nevertheless a risk is involved. With that in mind, I went to the eye doctor today to be evaluated and have now scheduled cataract surgery for my right eye on November 9. The doctor told me if everything goes well, I should see better than I do currently with my glasses.
It is kinda scary and exciting at the same time. I will let you know how it goes.

Too many people I know are getting cataract surgery. I think that means you are getting old. As I understand it, nearly everyone eventually develops cataracts. Rumi, here's hoping for the best possible outcome!

That's true, and it happens sooner to people in warmer climates. One of my tropical coworkers just had his eyes done back-to-back, with about a month in between.

Took me a minute to figure out what temperatures had to do with it: nothing, of course. Just more sun. I probably toasted myself pretty good on that score, even living up north, in my 20s when I seldom wore sunglasses unless actually on snow.

Forty eight hours post op and all is well. I had a stent put in to help control eye pressures as well as a sorta roto rooter work done on my eye tissue for the same reason. I see great, well at least as great as I can for being legally blind.

Three weeks and as far as I can tell, everything is well.
It is kinda weird because formerly when reading something or just looking at something closely, I would look over the top of my glasses and either pull it close to me or get my face close to it because of my severe myopia. Now I can see things far away easily and must put on readers to read or see stuff closely. I still find myself reaching for my glasses to pull them off when wanting to read. But I don't wear glasses anymore except to read. Also, when I go to bed I feel like something is left undone because I haven't put my glasses away. Anyway, I suppose I will establish my routine eventually. It's all good!
