I have an MSR HyperFlow.
It has only been used on a couple trips. Maybe 8 liters of water filtered... tops. And all water filtered was from pretty clean/clear sources (if memory serves it was all from the Rogue River).
That said, I did not treat the filter in any way before storing (meaning it has river water in it - i know, shame on me) and it's been setting dry for probably 2+ years now.
I'm wondering if I do some maintenance on the unit now, will it still be good to go, or do I need to replace the filter?
I was going to do the following:
1) pump a liter or so of bleach water solution 2) back-flush a liter or so of bleach water solution 3) test for filter integrity per filter instructions 4) completely disassemble unit and let the filter and all parts soak in some bleach water solution for 30 minutes 5) let all parts air dry 6) rinse (well) all parts with fresh tap water 7) lubricate and reassemble
What do y'all think? Replace the filter cartridge or should be good to go?
