indulge in enjoyable recollection of past events. "they reminisced about their summers abroad" synonyms: remember, remember with pleasure, cast one's mind back to, look back on, be nostalgic about, recall, recollect, reflect on, call to mind "we reminisced about Freddy's first Christmas with us"
I think many of us like to tell old stories about the people and experiences that went into building this community, And a section of the forum already being dedicated to Mataharihiker seems like a good place to keep the campfires burning, and the prayer flags flying, so when Mata, Phil, Oly, April, MaryPhyl, ChuckD, Oldnolder, RichB, JimmyC, CGap, Wheelz and Tom are on your mind and in your heart maybe share it here.

I still sharply miss Chuck. Probably always will. It was tough to be gone when he passed, and not in a place or time when I could really mourn him.
If anyone has the contact info for his wife (I only had his personal e-mail and cell, I don't have her info except just the address), if you could send it to me, that'd be great. Thanks,
- Mike

For me, Olyhiker comes to mind often, he was artistic and funny and caring. The last letter I got from him, he was talking about how many blessings are the people and experiences in our life, and I like to think that even though he didn't live long, his life was filled with moments when he was fully aware of the good in this world

Mostly, I miss Phil and Chuck from these boards. Both of them had a great sense of humor, and took no guff from whatever came down the line. Of course, April was never a member here, but I talked about her so much people felt like they knew her.

I'm glad to see this thread. I had wanted to find a nice way to have some sort of "In Memoriam" but then thought that might not be quite right. I came so close to trying to sign up the name "MatahariHiker" so I could start the Good Morning thread with her named as author. I even tried find her old avatar that I did have from the last forum change! I decided the description was going to have to be all I could add. And I thought too about adding Chuck's name to the cooking area,...But this thread will be just fine. Yes, "Bear Magnet" was a favorite forum name.

Personally, I think it would be fine if you signed Mata up and began the Good Morning thread under her name. How the hell are we going to find it if it says Happy Wednesday?
As far as I am concerned, you could use the ostrich or a set of prayer flags for her avatar.

I miss Oly too. I still have the picture on my wall here at home of us shortly after we'd first met, the start of a week hiking down the Olympic Coast. A younger, more brazen pair then. Shi Shi Beach, N. Olympic Coastline, 2004What a great guy, a wonderful friend, and a fantastic hiking buddy. I still miss him. - Mike

I remember Mata having a unique twist on saying goodby, she would say
"May the Forest be with you!"

Love this. For those of you that aren't on Facebook, Brad & I were able take Bearmagnet/pjsaeli to Banff last summer. I will pull up the pictures of where we scattered his ashes. It was a very emotional moment and I was so grateful to finally get him there...10 years after the fiasco that was our original trip.

Heard about JimmyC tonight and remembered this old conversation on the thread "bug list" about why the old "improved" forum was so bad. Sometimes the things someone says prove prophetic once hindsight is available. sadly, Jimmy predicted dying before the new and improved version showed up. I hope I'm not too tactless in laughing a bit, and thinking he would see the irony

If anybody would get the irony, it would be JimmyC.

Some of you might not remember him, but we lost RichB a few years ago as well, to cancer. He was a quieter member of the Forums.
