I spent a lot of time going through the beginning of this thread, looking for some pot/pan suggestions and couldn't find any. So just to ask, or to bring the topic back to the surface, what types of pots/pans is everyone using? Especially on the budget side. I won't be into using stoves much yet, so I would prefer to stay cheap with something that works, just so I can get used to the act of cooking my own meals.
If there is another thread that covers this topic, lead me to that, and I'll read through that rather than bouncing topics around here.

I think there are 2 ways to go here. If you are cooking in the pot, like making dinner directly in the pot and then cleaning it, the Walmart Grease pot gets mentioned as a cheap way to go. Just set aside the strainer part and you have a decent aluminum pot for $7. Then there is the following that only boils water in their pot, adding it to the freezer bag to rehydrate and cook their meal directly in the bag. I use this one on my White Box stove. Hope this helps.

(btw was only joking about drinking the fuel) I thought you were, but I kind of wanted to make sure no one got the wrong idea. OTOH, if you burn Everclear, you can drink it. Has to be like 98 proof, though. Everclear is 190 proof (95%). 98 proof is just enough to burn but I don't know if it will work in a stove. And don't drink Everclear straight. It won't kill you but you might wish it did. Ernie

Yeah, as noted above, I was messing up the way that proof thing works (I do know better). 98 proof (48%?)probably wouldn't burn well enough to cook, as I've tried rubbing alcohol (usually 70-75%) and it doesn't burn clean or hot. You could use it in a pinch, but that's about as low as you can go. Since I don't drink hard liquor, I've never tried drinking Everclear, but I can believe you! I think people dilute it with a lot of stuff, but I know some carry it as having the most bang for the ounce.

Christian I use the 1.5L pot from a very cheap cookset, the likes of which I don't seem to be able to find anymore. It's aluminum, with a darkened exterior, which is nice for better heat transfer (especially when leaving the pot sitting in the sun to pre-heat water). Weight is minimal and I've been using it for years with no problems, since all I do is boil water. Here it is in action in the Canadian Rockies in 2013: The small tin can behind the green cup is my "off switch" for the WB stove--a snuffer that allows me to smother the flames as soon as my water boils, for a nice fuel savings. One day I'm going to find an aluminum can of the right size (guess I could make one out of a pop can, if I could make the edges not sharp) for even more weight savings :D
