jazzmom , here's the PG site I foundThis is going to sound double awful lazy lame, but despite the fact that I have googobs of vacation time and no extended trips planned this year, I don't think I'm going to make it. Last year or the year before I flew in on Thursday, drove to a different park (Golden Gate, I think) way late (picked up fuel from Mike, helped a broken down cyclist), then got no sleep listening to the bear trying to get to my food and a bugling elk - unfortunately, I'm a very light sleeper. Plus, since I've lived almost my whole life at sea level, a sudden move to the 7 or 8k elevation of PG bugs me a bit. However, it was good great meeting some peeps I had met in the past and other peeps I hadn't met. The hike to a glacial lake MsD suggested was nice - hiked it with Interloper/Handsome Steve and Moz (Dave). A 14er is too much for me without more prep time, although I spent a week at around 14k in Bolivia a couple of years ago. Next time I'll rent a bigger car so I can pick up more firewood at that place, whatever-it-was. I think you should give Colorado another chance. It offered bugling elk to you! It likes you! But I get it, elevation on very little sleep doesn't work well together.

The next morning (Thursday?) I actually drove down, took a couple of naps in the car, and rented a room in Golden(?) for the night. Friday at PG I was fine, although the hike up to the lake on Saturday took longer than a similar hike at my elevation. Dave had more of an oxygen issue than I did, but Interloper was A-OK, and waited for us. :D It's tempting, tempting... Plus, I never got a chance to try the gumbo. I see some nonstop flights in the $160-250 range... ETA: Colorado's not the problem. It's my ultralight sleeping (maybe I should post at BPL ), and lifelong living at less than 1,000ft.

Well, I will need fuel if I fly in Thursday and camp somewhere on my own. You don't want to meet me on Friday if I don't get my coffee in the morning...

I think it might be a good idea to fly in Thursday night and sleep somewhere around Denver elevation. Hotels seem pretty cheap, and 10pm is going to be midnight my time, so I'll just stay in a hotel in Denver for the night. Make my way to Pickle Gulch bright and early the next day.

Good plan! Let me know if you need anything that you would rather not carry on the plane. I'm originally from NW Ohio, btw. Have lived in Colorado for going on 10 years now.

Well, it's only Thursday, but the way my weeks go Thursday = Friday Part I, I've had a coupla beers, and now I'm thinkin' I could turn this into an extended trip - Pickle Gulch, out to the Sierra, and see if I can find a grey-haired ponytailed guy who goes by the moniker of markskor , near Tuolumne Meadows. The roads should still be open, and I hear he has the double extra special lowdown on hiking/camping/fishing in the area... And I know a magic place near Glacier Point...

we mountain folk do have electricity and indoor plumbing! And Wi-Fi. Though bandwidth depends on the Geek's World of Tanks jones at the moment. *wink* Or has he moved on to another game?

Also, we have a nice side yard you are most welcome to pitch a tent in for Thursday night. Still working on past attendees to make an appearance this year who would take our spare bedroom, but if that ends up being available, and as long as you aren't an ax murderer, you are more than welcome. Does the yard still come with potential for a big cat encounter? Do you check potential ax murderers for their affinity for martial arts and the ability to speak Russian?
