Sun screen Anti diarrhea meds Chemical water purification tablets
All need to be replaced after a year (or less). And all are things you really want to work as intended when you need them in the backcountry.
Others?
I always put new batteries in headlamps before every big trip. The old ones get recycled into less "mission critical" devices, like TV remotes, etc.

Rechargeable batteries. Especially after some use, they don't hold the charge very long. Every week I found I had to recharge them even if they had not been used during the previous week.

In use, hiking boots don't last as long as they used to, though they probably have a long "shelf life"

I had bad luck with a pair of Limmer boots which fell apart after 2 years of use. Long story.
Poor quality control issues with Asolo boots--"disposable" comes to mind.

Ozark Trail tents---Run screaming. I had one of those....still have it actually. It was billed as a two person tent, but they'd have to be midgets. I could sleep in it diagonally (I'm not too tall) and had room left for my gear. It was 3 1/2 lbs and I abused the heck out of it.

I always take good quality chocolate as dessert for evening meals--been doing so for years. A few years back, I did an extended hike in the Gila Wilderness in southern NM in May. Packed my usual foods. The cheese was pretty woofy by day three. And the chocolate? Forget it.

I have generally gotten at least a year out of the Op Sak odor proof bags--they are far more durable than zip locks, for about the same weight.

I know "they" say you shouldn't use after one year, but I've used 4-5 year old sunscreen and found it works as good as year 1. ETA: It is stored in a temperature/humidity controlled basement.

Seems like every time I am packing for a trip, I check my first aid kit and something is expiring or near its date.
