Hi, my name is Jeanne and I'm new to the forum, but not to hiking and backpacking. I'm not an expert hiker, but not a newbie, just somewhere in the middle. Looking for suggestions for a 3-day backpacking trip (in two weeks) and thinking of Park Butte / Scott Paul Trail / Railroad Grade. Are dogs allowed on this trail? I'm considering bringing her for a companion and she's in good shape, but it may be too strenuous for a 12-year-old lab. Looking for feedback on this pick for a 3-day trip. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum Jeanne. Saw your earlier post on another thread. I'm not familiar with with the area you are looking at, as I'm in Socal. I love labs.

Hi Jeanne, and welcome. It's been a very long time since I was a WA hiker, but I've been to or near Park Butte and it's a nice area. You'll have to check FS websites to find about about dogs (and I don't know enough about dogs to know if the trail would be too much, but isn't 12 getting pretty old for a lab? Might be tough on her).
Hope some of the current WA residents will chime in with more info for you!

Try doing some exploring here www.wta.org/It's my go-to spot for seeing what's around. I am just beginning to explore the area myself (lived here most of my life, not hiked it until recently). You can search dog-friendly spots too. Be sure to read the Trail Reports as they often have very recent and helpful info. And I believe that area allows dogs. I just spent some time along the east side of Baker Lake with my lab and enjoyed it. Though mine is 3, not 12!
