Around here, having "luxury campers" in state parks is not all that unusual. The article, if you read it, isn't about "luxury camping". It's about Tesla's "camper mode" that relies on it being an electric car with enough juice to use the car's electronic features, including the a/c, even when the engine isn't engaged. I work in the automotive engineering industry and the breakthroughs in battery technology are actually a bigger deal than you might think.

I read the article (fairly quickly, but I read it) - I think you could easily qualify camping in the Tesla as "luxury camping", despite its other (supposed) advantages. I guess it's only a matter of time before someone "sleeps in" on a "Tesla camping trip" and gets caught with a dead battery.

Frankly, I'm not convinced that sleeping in the back of the Tesla, however high-tech, would be as comfortable as, say, in the back of the pickup (we used to have a little pickup with a shell. And carpet in the back. I slept in it once or twice when on my own, and we did once or twice when poaching a night's sleep in a fully-book Nat. Park).

This thread just reminded me that sometimes I'm too tired after work to hit the gym. Instead of bailing out, I stop at the gym on the way home and take a short nap in the parking lot. Usually I wake up in 15-20 minutes and feel revived enough to do my workout. (It popped into my head when I considered the comfort of a pickup truck bed relative to an almost-sitting position in a car, train, or plane seat).

But does said Tesla come with the Ludicrous speed option? (seriously folks, that's what they call it.) I think I'd go for the Model X and a hammock. I didn't try it at the dealership (they're a little touchy about that), but you can lock the "Falcon Wing" doors open (showroom mode.) If the middle seats are pushed and reclined back, you might be able to swing a hammock through the car. Don't know if the doors would support the weight though. I hope more manufacturers incorporate a windshield like that...it's awesome.
