My longest occurred just three weeks ago: 2 days, 24 miles. How does this compare to others? It doesn't matter. Hike your own hike. What matters most is gaining self-awareness, reverence for nature and your place in it, self-sufficiency, and confidence then applying it to your everyday life to become a better person. Ahh! I live in Holland, a beautiful town about 30-40 minutes from Grand Rapids

car insurance that's over $250/month despite the fact i have no tickets or accidents That's because you're still 17 (why it's so expensive). Just being in that age bracket makes you a "high-risk" insurance customer. Keep your record clean and that'll go down as you get into your mid-20s. Occasionally shop around to see if you can't get better deals from other companies. And best of luck! - Mike

This is something I haven't done yet. But would like to someday but first with someone who knows what their doing. I love maps and I can read a topo fine. I've had a basic orienteering class but I don't trust my skill set yet enough to do this on my own.

I'm not a long-distance marathon type hiker. I like my backpacking trips to be a few days into the wilderness. So my longest hikes pale in comparison. The longest I've ever been out is 3 nights a number of times, mostly on the Oklahoma side of the Ouachita Trail, but also in Rocky Mountain National Park. Lately, it has been only overnighters, though.
I have taken some long day-hikes and overnight hikes, the longest being a hike from Lava Point to Zion Lodge two different times, the last time a full-moon hike with a group. I find that one or two nights out refreshes my mind and body, so that is what I do.

Longest trip was 8 nights. One spring break in college, i decided to attempt to fly fish all the streams in 3 adjacent wilderness areas. I laid out a route that connected them all, did my hiking in the morning, and my fishing in the afternoons & evenings.
Still my most glorious trip to date. All by myself. Not a care in the world. No job or family to worry about back home.
