LOL! Next time the orange trowel breaks (we are on our second in 25 years or so), I'll consider such a thing! Based on recent experience, every tenth of an ounce counts these days.

The 40g Montbell trowel is pretty nice. It's quite sturdy and pulls more volume than a snow stake. However, at ~1.4 oz, it weighs almost twice as much. (I believe Ben used to have one of them, too).

Naw mates, this is a trowel. I call it Whole Dig. It cost 1/4 as much as the coveted Big Dig and besides making a splendid cat hole in short order it is an excellent tool for light trail maintenance.

I've been eying the $20 Deuce of Spades, to help me dig quickly in hard, rocky, rooty soil. Will I be disappointed with this 0.6oz trowel because it's aluminum not titanium?!? No, you will be pleased with equal weight and equal functionality at half the cost.

No, you will be pleased with equal weight and equal functionality at half the cost. But with a way lower poser, I mean coolness, factor. Glad to see you here, JR.

I can barely get needle tent stakes in the ground much less dig a cathole. Well, you're a newt. Those trowels are a lot bigger than you. While we probably never would have noticed a pile of newt poop on the trail, I commend you for moving the rock back. LNT.

patagucci-wearing, cuben-toting, titanium-wielding pseudoultralight poser. That's the term I've been looking for! After all these years...

This organe plastic shovel is great for digging holes and stuff. Its ability to bury poop makes it a truly multifunction tool. The bright orange color makes it easy to find in the snow. Also good to have nearby so if you drop trough to do your business and a hunter mistakes you for a hairy wildebeest, you can frantically wave the blaze orange to get his attention. Awesome all around.
