I am looking for a hiking partner(s) for a long trip in the Winds mid to late Sept. I am open to either a long loop where fishing and getting back into the remote lakes is primary, or a hike along the High Route. I am experienced and capable of whatever. I just would rather have a partner on such a longer trip if possible.
Will be up there with my nephew Sep 9-22 and hope we don't get any more fires! Both sides of the range now. We'd not be good partners as it's his first backpack and I don't want to spend too many nights out. May target a brief East side visit via Timico or do Wall or Elbow area. If that works ok, hope to try another from the other side from Dubois and/or Lander. Great time of the year to be up there.
Takes some pictures for me if you make it. If you drop don't to the Res Alpine Lake please take some shots there. I would be interesting to see what the 2013 burn looks like today. That was our base camp years back.
I was up in the winds last Sept 14-20 (Solo) and the weather was beautiful but the fishing was very slow for everyone I encountered. Not sure if that is normal. No bugs which was nice.
I was soloing in the Winds right about the same time (Sept. 18-30). Surprised to hear you say the weather was beautiful, as I remember some pretty nasty stuff just before I headed in. I picked up a hitchhiker on the 17th who had bailed on the high route and felt lucky to have gotten out alive. I found the fishing to be hit or miss, caught nothing on some lakes, couldn't keep them off my flies on others. The Great Outdoors was a pretty decent source of fishing info.
