I live in Philly, but will travel for scenic vistas and trudging climbs! Am looking for a solid backpacking/hiking buddy (or five). I'm getting back there in terms of fitness for trekking, though have been out of it for years after a former life as a backpacking instructor. Presently can do 7 miles in less than 3 hours comfortably, more with breaks over a day.
About me: 27, female, works at UPenn Neurology
Are you: - In/near/around Philly? (PA, NJ, DE) - Not going to be mad if I don't turbo a hike? - Uh... interested in backpacking and hiking?
Hi Olga, I've started backpacking this year and its now one of my favorite things to do. I'm in Philadelphia, hike like a turtle (around 2 miles per hour) and I've been out solo 3-4 times this year mostly in the Philly area.
toast and @olgaloraine you can both look at some things like the Allentown Hiking Club. There are folks who go out for weekends locally (about an hour to two north of your location). Honestly, the pace you speak of is often faster than mine depending on the amount of rocks and vertical that need to be traversed! Last trek saw a 9 mile movement over 8 hours (that included a half hour break to eat lunch, and two other 10-15 minute breaks, as well as a stop to fill up water--we had 900ft of vertical change and 7 boulder fields to cross). There are a few groups that do hikes in eastern PA that you might find useful.
Not sure when my son and I are getting back out for a few days, but I can post it to see if anyone wants to tag along.
Hey! I go to college in the Philly area and am looking for hiking buddies also! I'm 20 years old and originally from Western PA. I'll be back in Philly in August so I would love to do some fall hikes if you're interested! Feel free to message me!
