I think machine washable is over rated, as long as it can go in the dishwasher. Some firm brims have a difficult time in the clothes washer.

I'm out most every weekend.....my favorite is a Resistol Cisco. Without a doubt, it seems to keep me cooler than anything I've worn, boonies, ball caps, etc.

I have a $20 RedHead safari hat from Bass Pro Shop. Has a stiff brim and mesh panels for air flow around my dome. Been wearing it for years with no problems.

Sunday Afternoons here. They have a pretty solid stiffener in the brim, so you have to watch a bit how you crush them, but the back brim is soft and drops down for full neck coverage, the sides are wide enough to protect the ears, and there is a chin strap as well as a tensioner. Most of the time I put the "chin" strap behind under my braids (so that if a gust of wind comes up it won't actually blow the hat away) and tighten it under my chin only when the wind gets real. A family set:

I wear a Tilley T5 or T3, depending on the season.

At at this point, maybe a ponytail and a tennis visor...ok, not really as even with full hair, sometimes the sun got to be too much. Still the hat makers should make a wide brim design that actually works. Suffice to say, ponytail is not an option, even if I wanted one. I've been looking more and more at the OR Sombriolet. Half the cost of the Tilley and looks like it might stuff in a packer better. Thanks all!

I own both Tilley LTM6 and LTM10 I prefer the 10 in warm weather. The full crow is mesh, so the ventilation is great. Also noticeably lighter than the 6.

Little late to the party, but would like to add that I am also a fan of the Tilley LTM6 in the summer. If it gets floppy I find a good stretch over the knee puts mine back into form. If it gets too hot on a summer day I tend to dunk it in a stream or carry an extra liter for dunking. Performed great for me last week on a 5 hour. 90+ degree, ~8 mile off-trail, as after the sun came up I dunked it and a bandana in the liter about every hour.
...and that said I apparently get too excited about my hat.
I tend to switch off to an oversized TH5 below 60.

Baseball cap. Just the brim I need, no more.

Baseball cap. Just the brim I need, no more. No protection for ears or back of neck. Hope you are using a lot of sunscreen there (I'm sure you are, given your experience).

I treat my ears, the ponytail takes care of the back of my neck.

Tilley was a little rich for my blood, and I wanted something that I could crush in the backpack without thinking much about it.
Went with the Sombriolet. I'll give an update later if anyone is interested. Thanks for all of the input.
