I was in a wind storm on the Green River in Canyonlands. The wind picked up a 15 ft aluminum canoe and spun it in the air. If my wife hadn't dove on our tent we would have lost it and the bags and pads. It was all over in a few minutes.

By 5pm the snow flakes were enormous conglomerates, with no wind they were dropping heavily in the surrounding forest - I could hear a soft hissing surrounding me. Isn't that a wonderful sound?

Worst....or best weather? I may be in the minority but I love a great storm. I've found there's a line between "This is fun!" and "Oh crap!".

i just remembered a canoe trip I took as a kid --maybe 13 y.o. on one of our nights on the river (the Buffalo in middle TN) we had a strong storm move through in the early evening and I remember we had a big cluster of close lightning strikes --or perhaps just one-- that seemed to light-up the forest from within casting stark shadows. it wasn't the worst storm I've endured but a very surreal experience that has stuck with me.
another vivid memory that sticks out involved an early morning storm at Savage Gulf when we were just breaking camp. everything was calm and quiet when the wind picked up out of nowhere and we could actually see a wall of rain through the forest heading towards us. it didn't just start raining, the wind and rain moved through the forest like a godly ghost. and 10 minutes later it was calm again. fun stuff!

If you've been at it awhile, there's a selection. It's kinda like asking parents of grown children "what's the biggest mess your children ever made?" 10 minutes after your answer you recall another faded memory. So many. ------- I'll probably think of others. It's hard to say which was "worst", they're all different. "Which was your most memorable?" is perhaps the more useful question. Nope. I meant "worst". Don't blame me for your dull memory and lack of decision-making skills.
