I'm not sure if they are "The foot whisperer," but apparently I've been doing it wrong for like 20 years... Yep! Been there and done that. Had a size 13 regular foot since high school and finally had my foot measured for 14EE ...or atleast my left foot.

The Moabs are a very popular (if not the most popular) boot. That said, it pays to shop at a place that will use a brannock device (the shoe thingy)cans has a lot of hiker traffic so the staff is experienced (Los Angeles had my answer to my new shoe dilemmas) . I found a recent long hike slightly elongated a middle toe and forced more reliance on my narrow heel. So I'm having to use a rubbing bar and hope I get it right while figuring out what new shoe brands fit all day (outdoor, dress).

My boyfriend wears only New Balance. He wears size 16.5 EE.
Bigfoot isn't where you think he is... he's mowing our lawn.
I may have finally, finally talked him into custom boots. The only shoes NB makes in that size have the slickest soles on the planet and he topples like a sequoia too often on trails.

He must have to check for bear cubs. I suppose shoes have been a lifelong source of frustration for him.

I got my Danner Gavre in yesterday and they feel great! The first Danners I've ever tried. Trail testing time now.

I don't care which store you go to but I can't imagine not going to try boots/shoes on in person. Ordering boots online...That would be like trying to get a filling for my tooth online. I've gotten boots online twice. Once it was merely a newer version of the boots I'd been wearing for years (they had a good return policy, so that wasn't really a concern.) The other time was "we drew your name, what size and where do we send them." I could have picked them up in person, but the house accountant told me that she would not sign off on a trip to Denmark just to pick up a pair of boots. (I figured I'd sell them if they didn't fit, so it was low risk.)

Ok, Im off the boat for 3 weeks. The plan is to head for Asheville, visit my sister and get properly fitted with some footwear. I'll then do some car camping and break them in on the area trails. Any recommendations where to go? Thinking Pisgah Campground up on the Pkwy or N Mills River. And of course I'm headed to "Twelvebones" for some Babybacks!!!

So I've been remiss updating this but I did get fitted nicely for some boots at REI in Asheville. Keen Voyageur's, same boot as the TargheeII I'm told without the waterproof liner. Put around ten miles on the in 2-3 mile pieces on Grandfather Mountain and they feel great! Ended up in a size 13 which give my toes plenty of room yet the heel stays in place. A little nervous about how well ventilated they are and wet conditions but they will certainly dry quickly. It all a process right?
